Abstract

This study aims at the development of a strategy, which is based on the assumption that motorized modes would not be available, for evaluating the resilience of urban mobility. Therefore, only walking and cycling were considered as urban transport modes for the purpose of this theoretical exercise. The trips were initially classified in two groups, according to their adaptability or transformability. Those in the first group are considered resilient trips, but a third category had to be created to represent another set of resilient trips. These are the exceptional trips, i.e. walking or cycling trips that are longer than the Maximum Possible Distances (MPD) defined for the evaluation of resilience. The worst scenario (0 km) presented 40.4% of resilience, while the maximum resilience (100%) was achieved in 12,5 km. It was possible then, to adjust a theoretical function to represent the variation of the resilience. The results also showed a pattern for each segment of resilience due to differences in the urban form.
